College Aide IA (Junior - Senior)
The Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services promotes and protects the health and quality of life for New York City residents and visitors by ensuring an environment free from animal-borne diseases, hazards and nuisances by controlling and regulating animals. VPCS in conjunction with other city, state, and federal agencies, works collaboratively in monitoring and controlling rats in New York City's neighborhoods. VPCS identifies high-risk and reduces rodent populations using state-of the-art integrated pest management methods: source reduction, stoppage, and judicious application of rodenticides. The goal of the effort is to significantly reduce the health risks from rats in chronically infested level surveys to collect data on the presence of rats and conditions highly conducive to rats.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Design, implement and enter data on surveys conducted in NYC neighborhoods that look at rat activity and conditions conducive to rate (garbage & harborage).
Develop reports and maps summarizing the survey data.
Work with the team to develop posters and presentations for community and agency partners.
Data cleaning and participation in the evaluation of rat mitigation efforts.
Participate in field trails of integrated Pest Management techniques and novel rat monitoring tools.
Minimum Qual Requirements
For Assignment Level I: Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school. For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
