New York Times User Insight & Strategy Lead in New York, New York
The New York Times is seeking an experienced user experience researcher & strategist to support new product initiatives. This role reports to the Audience Insights Managing Director at The New York Times. This is a full-time position based in the New York Times office in midtown Manhattan.
Bring users & readers closer to everything that The New York Times does
Inform product & design decisions throughout the product lifecycle (from discovery through multivariate testing and live feedback-gathering); connect user insights to specific business decisions & outcomes
Lead research projects using ethnographic and interview-based methods (such as in-context observations, participatory design, group interviews, and usability tests); also use mediated research methods including surveys and online intercepts, user-initiated feedback tools, diary studies
Collaborate with product directors, designers, editorial staff, engineering, and other members of the New York Times product and editorial teams as well as web and customer analytics, custom and syndicated research and A/B testing teams to provide a holistic view of our users to deliver actionable insights and recommendations
Distinguish valuable insights from general research findings, persuasively and clearly present them in written communication and oral presentations
Manage projects to meet objectives and deliver on time and on budget
Innovate by identifying, evaluating and implementing new insight-gathering methodologies and technologies
At least 5 years of experience leading UX research efforts in a product development organization or human-centered design consultancy
Demonstrated expertise with a wide range of research methods including usability testing, ethnographies, and survey design
BS/BA, Master’s or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology or related field
Knowledge of Web analytics and A/B testing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to tell stories with data
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization including senior management
Curiosity and passion for understanding competitive and technological challenges of the media industry
Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a matrixed organization
