Advertised Summary Job Description

The Sternberg Lab at Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a highly motivated Technician B to work on a project investigating the mechanisms of adaptive immunity in bacterial CRISPR?Cas systems, and specifically focusing on RNA-guided DNA targeting. The technician will work closely with other colleagues in an ambitious, collaborative research environment, and will contribute to research projects using biochemical, molecular biology, and biophysical techniques. Other principal responsibilities include working with the PI to design equipment layout and workflows in the nascent laboratory, handling equipment and reagent ordering/deliveries, and helping shape the general organization of the laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Requires a bachelor's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related science. 2 years of laboratory research experience is preferred. Additional post-baccalaureate degrees and/or full-time academic/industrial lab experience is desired but not required.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

: Applicant should have strong knowledge of chemistry, biology, and microbiology, and will ideally have experience with either CRISPR?Cas biology or CRISPR-based genome engineering applications. Applicant must have excellent organization and communication skills, and have excellent proficiency with a wide range of biochemical and molecular biology techniques. A successful candidate will be able to complete tasks in a timely manner, with fine attention to detail.
