Student Affairs is an innovative, team-oriented division that provides integrated, student-centered educational activities that empower students to lead engaged socially responsible lives. Operating in a commuter, urban environment, John Jay students are affected by many external factors. This drives us to provide as many high-touch interactions as efficiently as possible while following best practices in the student affairs field.
The Center for Student Involvement and Leadership (CSIL) is a part of the Student Affairs Division. The division provides an array of intellectual and experiential opportunities for students to become engaged citizens through its various departments which support student organizations; social events; athletics; theatrical productions; community and service learning opportunities, as well as student support services that enhance their collegiate experience.
Reporting to the Associate Director, the Student Life Coordinator will:
Support the goals and objectives of CSIL within the needs of the John Jay community, and provide excellent customer service to students, faculty and staff.
Work with student leaders and organizations to develop and implement programs and activities of student interest, with a foundation in learning outcomes.
Assists and works with student organizations in planning and implementing events and programs; managing expenditures while creating sound organizational structure.
Registers, approves and provides services and consultation to student organization members and advisors.
Maintains current and accurate records of website information for student organizations, club officers and other student leaders.
Assists student organization members in understanding procedures including, but not limited to posting policy, provision of food and beverage policy, room reservations, and travel policy.
Reviews and signs all student organization paperwork for speakers, entertainers, supplies, etc.
Assists in developing workshops/trainings to assist student organizations.
Stay current with and manage new technologies and their best practices.
Assist with the updating of the CSIL webpage and Collegiate Link.
Provides supervision to evening and weekend student activities/events.
Serves on planning committees as needed.
Some weekends and evenings required.
Bachelor's degree required.
Strong written, oral communications and leadership skills
Excellent understanding of social media
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Campus Lab experience (preferred)
Two years’ experience (preferred)

Assists in preparing and providing student support services to promote the personal development of a diverse student population.
Assists student organizations/clubs in planning, implementing events and programs, and managing expenditures
Coordinates and helps present informational and educational programs, such as student leadership training and orientation
Assists with the management of student affairs facilities, such as acquiring equipment and arranging event logistics
May assume responsibility for one or more specific student programs
Performs related duties as assigned.
