Reporting directly to the Simulation Center (SIM Center) Director of Operations and indirectly to the Medical Director of the Simulation Center, the SIM Center Simulation Technician will provide technical support for all simulation operations of the SIM Center. Primary responsibilities include preparation, maintenance, and repair of computerized manikins, task trainers, and related multimedia peripherals.


  • Serve as simulator operator by programming, testing, and running scenarios with instructors and facilitators.

  • Assure facility and equipment are organized and set-up for teaching sessions. This may involve moving equipment, including simulators, and other materials than can weigh up to 100 pounds.

  • Operate and provide technical support and equipment troubleshooting for faculty, staff, students / learners, and presenters using SIM Center audio/video equipment (e.g., displays/monitors, controls panels, projectors, computers, associated wiring, related devices/peripherals, and so forth).

  • Monitor anesthesia machines and other, similar equipment related to simulation education.

  • Conduct routine equipment maintenance and inventory updates.

  • Identify and communicate the need for replacement equipment and facilitate new purchases.

  • Interface with vendors regarding troubleshooting and system problems.

  • Train faculty, facilitators, and other staff in the different simulation technologies and the operational aspects of simulation as well as the operation of AV equipment and technologies.

  • Establish and maintains vital records and statistics as they pertain to simulation, including a detailed record of all education and training conducted by the SIM Center, hierarchal storage of all digitally recorded simulations, and record of repair and maintenance of simulators.

  • Support collaborative research and certification projects for the SIM Center as requested, including assisting faculty with abstracts, educational presentations, poster printing, conference workshops, and manuscripts for publication.

  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

  • Work at night and/or on weekends, as required.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Requires a bachelor's degree in education, the health professions, or a related field or the equivalent in education and experience plus three years of related experience.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

  • One to three years of experience working in health care simulation.

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) to support interactions with learners and other stakeholders as well as SIM Center Management and Staff.

  • Familiarity with selection, implementation, use, and maintenance of simulation and related monitoring equipment.

  • Collaborative approach to working with stakeholders, including learners, senior leadership, faculty, staff, and students.

  • Familiarity with the operation of personal computers is essential, particularly e-mail and Windows Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).

  • Familiarity with audio visual equipment is also highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn medical terminology.

Physical Demand Level: Heavy

In an 8-hour workday, must be able to lift /carry:

-50 to 100 pounds occasionally;

-25 to 50 pounds frequently;

-10 to 20 pounds regularly.

Special Instructions

Preferred Qualifications

An additional one to three years' experience working in a health care setting and/or experience in surgical skills lab. Experience working with a range of high technology human patient simulators, task trainers, computer-based simulators, or 3-D printing.
