The Department of Biomedical Informatics is looking for a Research Coordinator to work on a project that seeks to investigate new approaches to engaging individuals from medically underserved communities in health self-monitoring. This person would play an integral role in conducting research activities, specifically as related to requirement of participants for qualitative and technology use studies, coordinating study activities, maintaining database of participants, collecting and organizing data recorded during the study, and assisting in preparing the data for analysis. The Research Coordinator will work closely with the project team to organize and conduct all aspects of ongoing and future research studies related to this project under the direction of Dr. Lena Mamykina from the Department of Biomedical Informatics.

We are looking for a candidate with a background in public health, health education/health promotion, with interest in health communication as it intersects with technology. The ideal candidate for this position will be familiar with theories and models from the fields of health education, psychology, communication, and informatics and experience conducting qualitative studies, including interviews and focus groups. Because this project targets residents of the Washington Heights community and the majority of study participants are expected to be Spanish speakers, proficiency in Spanish is required.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of related experience.

Candidate should have a strong interest and demonstrate expertise in areas of consumer health informatics, health communication, disease management, and health promotion. In addition the candidate must demonstrate strong writing skills, strong interpersonal skills as required to be part of a collaborative, team-based effort, be a self-starter who is comfortable taking initiative and who can play a major role in initiating new projects and help to bring several projects to completion. The candidate should also demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point), Atlas (or other research coding software), Qualtrics, and SPSS (or other statistical software). Experience with CUMC systems such as RASCAL, CROWN, or Eclipsys or with computer programming languages is not required, but is desirable. Spanish fluency is required.

Essential Functions


? Prepare necessary updates to the study protocol for Institutional Review Board

? Prepare recruitment materials including brochures and fliers

? Translate all necessary materials from English to Spanish

? Work with the research team and clinical collaborators to develop a recruitment strategy

? Recruit study participants

? Explain study procedures to study participants, obtain informed consent

? Provide training to study participants on the use of experimental technologies (smart phone apps for self-management of diabetes)

? Conduct qualitative research activities, including interviews and focus groups

? Maintain research database with all the data collected during the studies

? Manage all logistics related to carrying out a technology use study

? Follow up with study participants when necessary

? Maintain and organize study data, conduct data cleaning, and perform quality assurance on data and tools

? Work with team members to identify approaches to data analysis

? Participate in writing of research manuscripts (provide feedback, brainstorm ideas)

? Maintain content on study's website

? Perform other related duties as needed
