Risk is present in all of Santander’s activities and effective Risk Management is a critical component of the Bank’s success. Through application of the Bank’s Risk Framework and the continuous identification and assessment of risk, Santander seeks to ensure that all of our businesses operate inside of clearly established limits, are able to proactively quantify exposures, and take corrective action when required. As a member of the Risk Management division, you’ll be part of a diverse team of talented professionals who interact with senior risk team personnel, business managers and other Bank disciplines in order to understand business operations and dynamics, and analyze, monitor, and manage related risks.

Responsible for managing staff and providing oversight of Credit Policy and regulatory compliance and controls for a designated region. Manages verification and approval process of all approval memorandums, serving as single point approver of low risk SAMs and SAM agent for presentation to committee. Continuously monitors and proactively manages risk/exposure and independently reviews clients/deals representing the highest level of exposure, revenue, risk and complexity within designated region.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Requires frequent client interaction and visits, partnered with Senior and Executive level management within Corporate Banking

  • Responsible for formal credit review processes (e.g. Credit File review, Audits, Compliance review, etc.) and accuracy and completeness of all formal loan documentation, comments and updates

  • Responsible for loan growth and cross-sell opportunities within designated region, sharing income goals with Corporate Banking Sales

  • Responsible for the quality, integrity and soundness of all financial analysis, underwriting and credit approval processes for an assigned portfolio within the region

  • Serves as primary liaison for client prospects; interacts in-person and via phone with existing customers, potential customers and Corporate Banking Sales teams on a routine basis

  • Authenticates all post loan closing activities, including conditions precedent to closing, are accurate and complete

  • Authorizes decisions in areas of credit transactions, risk ratings and extensions of credit within limits of Credit Policy

  • Distributes workload and provides guidance, direction and mentoring to Credit Team

  • Enforces Credit Policy compliance, regulatory and legal compliance, credit transaction integrity and completeness of all transactions within a Credit Team

  • Manages a Credit Team consisting of Credit Officers and Credit Analysts overseeing Credit and Risk management within designated region.Continuously monitors and frequently visits clients providing an independent review of credit quality, client risk/exposure, risk ratings, compliance with Credit Policy and compliance with terms and conditions of legal agreement for assigned portfolio

  • Evaluates, prices, structures, risk rates and documents all prospective deals, renewals, maturities to ensure appropriate asset quality, risk and compliance to minimize Bank Risk/Exposure and ensure maximum profitability

  • Manages approval process ensuring accuracy of approval memorandum (SAM), supplemental exhibits and underwriting is compliant with current Credit Policy standards and practices

  • Manages productivity, procedures, standards and compliance with Credit Policy and Best Practices

  • Negotiates terms and conditions of Credit with clients and Corporate Banking Sales

  • Proactively manages credit risk and exposure for the region; initiates credit modifications and risk upgrading/downgrading, modifying terms and frequency of covenants, financial reporting, collateral security, audit schedule; initiates transfers to wor,Identifies early client risk/exposure, early detection of volatile industries and markets within the region.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years as a Senior Credit /Loan Workout Officer and experience managing a mid-size team

  • Demonstrated track record of managing a team, strong individual contributions, interacting with Executive level management and working within a team environment

  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills

  • Thorough knowledge of credit policies, procedures, regulations and applicable law

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
