Rockefeller University Laboratory Communications Coordinator in New York, New York
Job Title Laboratory Communications Coordinator
Employment Status Full Time
Laboratory / Department Science Outreach Program
The Rockefeller University Science Outreach Program, also known as RockEdu, aims to build a better dialogue between scientists and the K-12 community. Our collaborative and creative team of scientists, educators, and support staff strives to shape and promote science outreach as a set of opportunities for members of our communities to engage with science as a relevant, human endeavor, and to foster a genuine connection with science in our society. The RockEdu team works at the intersection of basic science research and K-12 science education to create innovative and flexible science resources and programs that promote equitable access to and an appreciation for the scientific process, and are sustained through a culture of outreach within the scientific community.
A major hub of RockEdu is our LAB Initiative, which fosters active learning and deductive reasoning for students, and opportunities for scientific growth for educators. The majority of LAB Initiative programming occurs on the Rockefeller campus in the science outreach teaching laboratory -- a 3,000 square-foot space exclusively dedicated to science outreach and education. LAB Initiative programs include LAB Experiences for middle and high school science classes; LAB Out Loud teen science cafes; and professional development opportunities for science teachers. We are actively recruiting a new RockEdu team member to assist with communication and coordination of our LAB Initiative programs taking place in our laboratory, as well as managing related digital communication streams to a variety of target audiences. Specifically, our new team member will be responsible for coordinating laboratory visits with K-12 teachers and school administrators, assisting RockEdu lead facilitators with daily program setup and breakdown, assisting RockEdu lead facilitators management of LAB Experience classes for middle and high school students, documenting visits for social media, managing RockEdu newsletters and other official program announcements, creating and implementing strategic plan for social media engagement with multiple K-12 educational and scientific audiences, promoting opportunities for professional science outreach and educational engagement experience within the Rockefeller (and Tri-I) scientific communities, managing RockEdu social media streams (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat), for both program promotion and general audience engagement purposes, and managing our online blog, The Incubator, including solicitation of blog posts and maintenance of our Scientists of New York, photojournalism series.
