The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person and provides for the proper disposition of unclaimed bodies. JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the selected candidate will provide talent acquisition support to the Human Resources Department at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner. The core functions of the Human Resources Department include: recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, employee discipline, labor relations, performance management, timekeeping, and professional development.

Typical tasks that will be performed by the selected candidate include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develops, maintains and reports HR Recruitment Analytics

  • Develops partnerships with educational institutions and professional organizations

  • Conducts outreach to job placement programs

  • Coordinates and attends job fairs, professional conferences, and various recruiting events

  • Handles civil service list actions

  • Develops postings for positions and submits in EHIRE.

  • Follows-up with DOHMH to ensure candidates are accomplishing processing mandates within set time frames

  • Reviews candidate qualifications and forward qualified résumés to hiring managers for scheduling interviews

  • Assists in organizing the interview panels

  • Coordinates start date with hiring managers

  • Attends interviews as the HR representative

  • Notifies selected candidates by preparing job offer letters

  • Refers candidates to DOHMH for employment and medical processing

  • Collects DNA Swabs required from each candidate

  • Provides agency-specific orientation for new employees

Minimum Qual Requirements

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

SPECIAL NOTE 1. Selected candidates will be required to provide a DNA sample by swabbing. 2. In cases of an emergency, this position may be designated as “essential”.
