The Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) team is responsible for the investment, counterparty and operational risk at BlackRock. Global portfolio risk management takes place across all of BlackRock’s client portfolios ($3.9 trillion in assets under management). In this capacity, RQA assists the global investment teams (across Fixed Income, Equity, Multi Asset and Alternative assets) in constructing portfolios that are consistent with specified risk and performance objectives. RQA works closely with portfolio managers and business heads on a daily basis. The team also provides independent risk oversight for senior management of the firm and the board of directors.

Position: Analytics & Risk | Risk Management - Investments | 2014 Analyst

Key Responsibilities:

As an analyst on the team, your responsibilities may include:

• Prepare materials for and participate in meetings between RQA and portfolio managers to discuss risk and performance of client portfolios.

• Work with other RQA team members to conduct quantitative research on global investment markets and impact on client portfolios.

• Enhance processes and risk analyses to better align risk policies and methodologies with the client’s objectives.

• Develop proprietary techniques for risk and performance measurement and collaborate with portfolio managers and technology to implement them.

• Help portfolio managers by assisting with quantitative techniques for portfolio construction and alpha generation.

• Assist in creating investment risk analyses and reports for portfolio managers and senior management of RQA.

Position: Analytics & Risk | Risk Management - Counterparty & Concentration Risk | 2014 Analyst

Key Responsibilities:

As an analyst on the team, your responsibilities would include:

• Assessment and documentation of counterparty credit worthiness for prospective and existing counterparties using quantitative as well as qualitative methods

• Monitoring the ongoing financial performance of counterparties and making recommendations regarding the levels of exposures/thresholds as needed.

• Identification of direct and contingent credit/counterparty risks and exposures arising from Clients’ and/or BlackRock’s investment activities and operational processes

• Measuring and monitoring individual investment portfolios’ exposures to respective counterparty entities and groups, broken out by the various transaction and asset types

• Monitoring aggregate levels of exposures across all of BlackRock’s clients’ portfolios - by counterparty, product, and tenor

• Interaction/coordination with BlackRock’s Credit Research Group, and functional groups including Legal, Compliance, Global Client Group and Operational teams

• Protecting BlackRock’s reputation

Position: Analytics & Risk | Risk Management – Operational Risk | 2014 Analyst

Key Responsibilities:

As an analyst on the team, your responsibilities may include:

• Processing operating events. Responsible for investigating and documenting key information on operating events and working with the business to take corrective action,

• Facilitating risk and control self-assessments with the business. Provide independent and consultative risk management services to the business on a range of key projects including risk identification and evaluation of corresponding controls.

• Raising risk and control issues and actions with the business to improve processes and procedures.

• Reporting and analyzing operational risk data across business for senior level audiences.


• Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in an analytical, financial and/or technical major (e.g. economics, finance, applied math, statistics, engineering, computer science, etc.).

• Solid communication and presentation skills (verbal and written). The candidate must demonstrate the ability to explain analytical or quantitative concepts in practical and simple terms.

• Ability to sell important ideas and influence outcomes is critical.

• Ability to work across multiple functions, geographies and stakeholders with professional maturity and sound judgment.

• Strong analytical, quantitative and computational skills.

• Attention to detail, a strong work ethic and ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

• High level of self-motivation and highly organized and able to adhere to tight deadlines.

• Robust quantitative skills along with demonstrated analytical ability.

• Strong interest in financial markets.

• Strong ethical compass, demonstrable integrity and a commitment to doing the right thing

• Knowledge of programming languages (such as C, C , etc.) or statistical tools, such as Excel VBA, S-Plus, R, SAS or Matlab, and/or familiarity with SQL and financial data tools (such as, Bloomberg) is a plus but not required.
