Advertised Summary Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Dean and Director of Field Education, the Associate Director is responsible the management of Graduate Social Work student internships; and the management of or assistance with one or more fields and methods of practice. The incumbent will consistently identify, assess and authorize new field placements for both first and second year students; recruit and screen new field instructors, and in the process of recruiting and authorizing these placements, incumbent will provide onsite information and training to newly recruited field instructors and education coordinators; systematically and consistently monitor and assess field sites; assess and place students in internships; and co-chair one or more Field of Practice Advisory Committees with faculty; and contributing to and/or managing the Field Education Placement Planning Book. The Associate Director will work with multiple constituents including CUSSW faculty, students, advisors, other CUSSW administrative offices, and social work and non-social work professionals both at other schools of social work and working generally in the field. Incumbent will also be responsible for other significant program components in the Field Education Office. Additional assignments include the management and coordination of Advanced SIFI courses; and the design, implementation, analysis and writing of the Field Education research initiatives and special projects.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

Masters in Social Work required from an accredited graduate school of social work.

A minimum of five years post-Masters agency-based social work experience that includes supervising students.

Prior experience placing students in field assignments, monitoring field placements, and/or working in a graduate school of social work field education department required.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated comfort in interacting with a broad constituency are mandatory.

Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines while leading multiple, concurrent projects with minimal supervision required.

Ability to work with and be supportive of team effort is essential.

A strong sales and customer service orientation along with commitment to creative and innovative practice is required.

Capacity to prioritize projects and demands.

Demonstrated tact, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism and a strong customer-service orientation and computer technology required.

Essential Functions

Discuss field placement options with students, provide counsel and/or mediate to resolve difficulties when necessary, promote student learning and encourage their professional development. (35%)

Identify and recruit appropriate sites to serve as graduate placement opportunities for masters' students. (10%)

Provide information to field instructors and work with them to facilitate student learning and evaluation. (10%)

Partner with the Director of Advising and advisers to resolve student issues related to placements and to address related pedagogical matters. (10%)

Build new and maintain existing relationships with field agencies. (10%)

Collaborate with faculty members in the design, development, and implementation of field education initiatives and other projects. (5%)

Co-chair with faculty members the Field of Practice Advisory Committees and serve on other faculty and administrative committees and task force groups. (5%)

Design, develop, and implement Field Department activities related to student specialization planning, field instructor support, adviser training, and/or professional conferences related to field education. (5%)

Participate in and contribute to department/staff meetings. (5%)

Undertakes other related developmental duties and task as needed, assigned, or appropriate for the Field Education Department. (5%)
