Essential Job Functions:
The Specialist is responsible for assisting GSH in achieving its goals for quality improvement, accreditation, and regulatory compliance, by supporting adoption of best practices and adherence to established policies, procedures, regulations and standards. This individual has the ability to identify areas of program strength and opportunities for improvement; to oversee the collection, aggregation, and analysis of GSH performance improvement data; and to define and develop recommendations that improve patient outcomes and maximize resource utilization. This individual will partner with management in evaluating best practices, conducting ongoing quality and compliance activities, and implementing standardized processes. This position also supports strategic organizational goals for using information technology to facilitate customer service, improve patient care and resolve business related problems. You will collaborate with Nursing Leadership, Quality Improvement, Information Systems, and Psychiatric/Medical Staff, to enhance the interchange of clinical information and the computerized medical record system.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge and understanding of facility policies/procedures, Joint Commission accreditation standards, and state and federal regulations for behavioral health inpatient settings;
Appropriately utilizes knowledge and understanding of regulations, standards, policies and procedures to articulate accurate responses for identified survey issues;
Validates ongoing facility survey readiness;
Assists in implementing, monitoring and reporting progress of corrective action work plans;
Educates staff on opportunities for process improvement, documentation compliance, coding/ reimbursement issues, and performance improvement methodologies;
Assists personnel in the operation of computer systems and applications, and participates in developing plans for enhancements of systems to support quality goals;
Prepares documentation, charts, graphs, project plans, training materials and other written communications
Required Experience and Qualifications:
At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience encompassing a minimum of one year in each of the key components of the position: clinical nursing, quality improvement and informatics (strong clinical experience preferred).
Knowledge of Joint Commissions Standards and National Patient Safety Goals
Familiarity with quality improvement methodology and process mapping
Strong computer skills and prior experience in using at least one electronic medical record
Experience with managing and interpreting data, and a high level of proficiency in utilizing data management tools (e.g., Excel)
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work in a team environment and to contribute to the effective functioning of that team
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Master’s degree preferred)
