CUNY Senior College Laboratory Technician - TV Center in Brooklyn, New York

GENERAL DUTIES Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.

  • Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment

  • Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions

  • Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff

  • Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories

  • Maintains safety and hygiene standards

  • Documents laboratory activities

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

CONTRACT TITLE Senior College Laboratory Technician

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION Brooklyn College invites applications for a Senior College Laboratory Technician (Senior CLT) in the TV Center. Reporting to the Director of the TV Center, the Senior CLT provides technical assistance to faculty, staff and students using the facilities for academic and professional purposes. The Senior CLT also supervises the field equipment distribution office, and ensures equipment is borrowed and returned in a timely manner.

In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Senior CLT performs the following duties:

  • Provide technical assistance to faculty, staff and students for academic coursework and professional productions in the TV Center’s main facilities, including: Studio B, Master Control, Post-Production and ancillary facilities.

  • Train and supervise students in their practicum in the TV Center.

  • Train and supervise students in basic safety and operations of required equipment including any required certifications training and testing.

  • Participate in the ongoing maintenance of laboratory equipment.

  • Assist in the technical evaluation and planning of TV Center-supported productions for student and faculty use.

  • Monitor and track inventory of supplies, expendables, replacement items, repairs and updates. Make recommendations to Director of the TV Center as needed.

  • Supervise field equipment distribution office, and train part-time staff to uphold department policies and procedures.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of laboratory improvements, upgrades and modifications, making recommendations to the Director as appropriate.

  • Manage set-up and maintenance of TV Center facilities for student use.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in an integrated live broadcast facility

  • Familiarity with Apple Computers, MacOS, Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Premiere and Media Encoder), Final Cut Pro X, Pro-Tools, DaVinci Resolve and related software.

  • Experience with Live streaming or traditional live broadcast systems

  • Full knowledge of single and multi-camera production workflows including pre- through post-production.

  • Familiarity with professional video formats including uncompressed HD as well as compressed EXCAM file formats, DVCPRO HD, AVCHD, MXF, RAW and others as well as 4K workflows.

COMPENSATION $56,119 - $65,216; Commensurate with qualifications and experience
